ENCAUSTIC PAINTING A beautifully luminous form of painting developed by the Greeks, lost for centuries, and now being revised and adapted to contemporary art expression. In this 2-day workshop you will learn the original, non-toxic techniques of encaustic painting with beeswax. Encaustic materials and tools are provided. Bring other supplies listed in the Calendar. |

FIGURE-LIKE DOLL MAKING
Learn how to make moveable armature and follow through with your own doll or animal creations. Head, hands and feet are covered with plaster of paris to create a textured affect. Create facial features and expression with basic sculpture techniques and tools. Sculpt, paint, sew or glue. This workshop is so much fun! Just bring your energy and imagination. Koren Bellman has been designing and making period costumes with a focus on painting and textiles, including hand painted kimonos, for the past 10 years. She graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design and has studied in Florence, Italy. Incorporating performance art, she suggests costume as persona, evolving costume styles and meaning into the present day. Currently, she has turned her costume design ideas into one-of-a-kind women’s ready-to-wear-clothing made

GLASS BEADMAKING Glass Bead making has been around for centuries; glass beads exist as some of the first known objects of man made glass. Beads have been used to convey status, beauty, and power and over the last 20 years flame working has seen a dramatic reemergence. This class is open to both experienced and non-experienced flame workers. Students will have the option of buying glass beads for their own projects or to use with what they make in class. |
Amy Johnston has a Diploma in Applied Arts in Glass Blowing from Sheridan College. She has taught workshops at many venues including Sheridan College, Mississippi Mills School of the Arts, as well as in
her own private studios for over seven years. Amy works full-time as a jewelry designer, maker and teacher, and is a partner in an innovative glass studio named TANK fire + metal in Toronto's Distillery District.

GOLD AND SILVER JEWELLRY The objective of this class will be for students to create 3+ finished pieces of jewelry with gold or silver components. They will work directly with the metal, no casting or P.M.C. will be used to make parts, and thus it will require some hand working strength.

MIXED MEDIA
Experiment with painting, gel, mixed media and various tehniques to create unque compositions and designs. The use of acrylics and water colours in a distinct style will be part of this course. Students will be required to pay a $25.00 material fee and bring brushes and structural materials. |

*PHOTO SILKSCREEN PRINTING -- AN INTRODUCTION This workshop will explore the process of taking a black+ white image from a photograph, photocopy, drawing or collage to a print on paper, canvas or fabric. It will cover the history of the process as well as printing demonstrations on anything from T-shirts to jackets to fine water colour paper. Non-toxic inks, screens, some papers and fabrics are provided. Wear old clothes and bring high contrast B+W images to work on. |
